Merrill Lynch Latest Survey; Rising Health Care Costs Again the Major Concern of Affluent Americans

Merrill Lynch released its “Affluent Insights Survey” which examined the goals, values and financial concerns of affluent Americans. The latest survey reveals how new retirement realities and longer life expectancy are causing many to rethink their approach to planning for later years.

Some the more surprising highlights were;

  • For the third year in a row rising health costs are the major financial worry of affluent Americans
  • Two-thirds of affluent Americans have not estimated what their health care costs may be in retirement — including those over age 50, who are closer to retirement
  • Affluent Americans would like to discuss more with their financial advisor “the impact of rising health care costs on retirement income”.
